It was an eventful and enthralling weekend in the Bundesliga, with the top teams showing out on Matchday 6, vying to separate themselves on a tightly-packed table.
Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund all dealt with various troubles during their fixtures, ending in a matchweek filled with surprising results all around.
There were some upsets along with a tonne of highlights, which included a goal fest in the Deutsche Bank Park where the weekend’s main event between Bayern and Frankfurt was staged.

Die Adler are for real
Even when Frankfurt were second to Bayern the moment they met—and were on a ludicrous run under head coach Dino Toppmoller—the Bundesliga 2024 odds still had the Bavarians as the overwhelming favourites to walk out of the match with all three points.
Instead, they got more than what they bargained for after Toppmoller’s side split the points, showing Bayern that they are contenders and not mere pretenders.
Bayern went into the board first via a Kim Min-jae goal in the 15th minute, which was assisted by Thomas Muller. But their lead didn’t last long after scoring machine Omar Marmoush drew Frankfurt level with a well-placed finish past Manuel Neuer.
Things would go from bad to worse for Bayern as Frankfurt took the lead in the 35th minute, this time with Marmoush turning into the assister, as he found Hugo Ekitike who rifled it against Neuer.
Bayern found their bounceback abilities alive and well, however, with Dayot Upamecano bringing the Bavarians on level terms just three minutes after Frankfurt took a 2-1 advantage.
Despite the score being tied, Bayern were the side who had way more control of the ball, to which they were finally rewarded after Michael Olise’s goal in the 53rd minute.
Everyone thought it was done and dusted, and that Bayern had done their job away from home.
But Marmoush had something for them, and in the 94th minute, the Egyptian striker scored his eighth goal of the campaign as he tied the score at 3-3 to share the spoils between the two clubs.
With his brace, Marmoush is now the leading scorer in the Bundesliga.
Points dropped for Bayern and Frankfurt worked to Red Bulls’ advantage
Regardless of the entertaining affair between Frankfurt and Bayern, it was clear that either club would’ve wanted to take all three points home.
Instead, they’ve now dropped points, allowing the chasing pack to move closer. And that’s exactly what Leipzig did after their no-nonsense victory over Heidenheim.
A close 1-0 victory away from home, the visiting Red Bulls did enough to escape a gritty Heidenheim side, continuing their unbeaten run in the league so far.
It was a tight affair in the first half, with fouls and chances being given to either side.
Leipzig thought they’d gone ahead in the second half after Benjamin Sesko’s 53rd-minute header, but VAR eventually ruled it out due to a foul prior to the goal.
The only goal of the match arrived in the 59th minute, with Lois Openda’s exquisite finish from a tight angle.
The win tied Leipzig with Bayern on points, with only goal differences to separate them.
Sahin, Dortmund surprised in Berlin
Prior to Die Borussen’s visit to Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, Nuri Sahin’s side were unable to provide acceptable—by their standards—Bundesliga 2024 results away from Signal Iduna Park.
They were destroyed 5-1 by Stuttgart last September 22 and had a goalless draw with Werder Bremen last August 31. Heading into Berlin, they were hoping to get their first away win of the season, coming off a 7-1 victory against Celtic in the Champions League.
But Union had plans of their own, and with the club undefeated at home, Union boss Bo Svensson looked to extend their impressive home record.
And that they did as Die Eisernen dealt Dortmund yet another disappointing road result, beating the visiting Prussians 2-1.
The second one was a rocket courtesy of Yorbe Vertessen.
Dortmund tried to claw back after Julian Ryerson scored from the left flank in the 62nd minute, but the boys in black and yellow ultimately found no saving grace in the end.
The loss was their second defeat in a row, which now places them seventh in the league.
