Augsburg vs Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich are set to return to Bundesliga action after the international break as they pay a visit to struggling Augsburg.
Bayern, who are four points clear at the top of the table, have been in blistering form in the league under new coach Julian Nagelsmann and have already scored 40 goals in just 11 games.
That is why the Bundesliga 2021 betting odds have them as overwhelming favourites to sweep aside Augsburg, who are facing another tough relegation fight this season.
Talking Points
Bayern stars shine for national teams
This past international break was another busy one for Bayern’s stars, who were in action for their respective national teams.
Superstar striker Robert Lewandowksi had another productive game for Poland as he scored a brace and added an assist in their 4-1 win over Andorra. However, the big Pole was rested for their second match against Hungary, which Nagelsmann should have appreciated.
Lewandowski is providing plenty of Bundesliga 2021 highlights at the moment, scoring 12 goals in his last eight games for club and country. That includes the winner in Bayern’s 2-1 win at home against Freiburg last time out.
Leroy Sane, who supplied the assist for Lewandowski’s goal, also continued his fine form while playing for Germany. The winger bagged a brace in their 9-0 win over Liechtenstein, giving him four goals and two goals in his last five games for club and country.
Thomas Muller also had two goals against Liechtenstein and added an assist in Armenia during the break.
German trio set to return following Covid isolation
But while Sane and Muller were starring for Germany, compatriots Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Jamal Musiala all had to sit out. They had to undergo quarantine after fellow Bayern teammate, defender Niklas Sule, tested positive for Covid.
Sule is not yet ready to return, but Kimmich, Gnabry, and Musiala are all expected to make it back for the weekend, which will be a huge boost for Bayern. Gnabry already has six goals in 11 Bundesliga games, while Musiala has two goals and three assists.
Augsburg off to awful start
After finishing 15th in two of the past three seasons, Augsburg are in the midst of another relegation scrap this year. They are currently in 16th place with six defeats from their first 11 games.
Aside from having one of the most anaemic attacks in the league (9 goals, third-fewest) they have also conceded 20 goals.
Augsburg had an offensive explosion when they came from behind to beat Stuttgart 4-1 at home at the end of October. But they fell back down to earth with a 1-0 away defeat to Wolfsburg.

Augsburg’s home form has been their saving grace this season. They are undefeated in their last three games at the Augsburg Arena, including their only two wins of the season to date.
Veteran striker Florian Niederlechner has been the club’s biggest goalscoring threat thus far with three goals, two of which have come at home.
However, they need to shore up their defence, which has conceded three or more goals four times already, if they are to survive this season.
History
Bayern have absolutely dominated Bayern over the years. The Bavarians have won 10 of their last 12 meetings, including each of the last three.
Although, Augsburg have been a bit more competitive in their last couple of home games against the German giants. They only lost 1-0 to Bayern at home last season, drew 2-2 with them the season before, and had an entertaining 3-2 shootout the season before that.

Unsurprisingly, SBOTOP odds have Bayern Munich installed as massive 1.18 favourites to beat Augsburg, who are astronomical 14.00 underdogs at home. Meanwhile, a draw is at 6.60.
While Bayern are coming off an international break, a number of their main stars will be relatively fresh. Lewandowski sat out one of Poland’s qualifiers, while the likes of Kimmich, Gnabry, and Musiala should all benefit from the time off they got in isolation.
And the fact that they were in such fantastic form before the break only strengthens the belief that they should have no problems against Augsburg, who are struggling on both ends of the pitch.
Bayern have scored three or more goals in six of their last seven away matches, and I fully expect them to continue that trend en route to a comfortable away win over Augsburg.
