The 2021-2022 Bundesliga season is winding down, with Bayern Munich now one win away from clinching their 10th consecutive championship.
Bayern and top rivals Borussia Dortmund already have their sights set on next season as both clubs are now busy trying to seal various deals ahead of the summer.
The fates of superstar strikers Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland are very much on top of those clubs’ to-do lists, while Bayern have several other stars to lock up.
Read on below as SBOTO provides a full rundown of the latest Bundesliga 2022 news and updates.
Bayern still hoping to lock up Robert Lewandowski long term
Bayern Munich are cruising to their 10th championship in a row, in large part due to Robert Lewandowski’s brilliance. The Polish superstar has scored 32 goals thus far and is set to win his fifth Torjägerkanone in a row as the league’s top scorer.
However, there has been some speculation regarding his future in Bavaria, with Barcelona emerging as a potential destination.
But Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has assured Bayern fans that the club has been in contact with Lewandowski, and they are keen to keep the Pole in Bavaria.
“As of today, Robert has a contract with us. We’re currently in contact with him and we want him to stay at Bayern for as long as possible,” said Kahn.
“Of course, players like that sometimes think about trying something else and it takes time to convince them. There are also financial aspects to consider, and as a club you have to think about how to manage that because FC Bayern have suffered from the pandemic in the last two years.”
Oliver Kahn rules out Erling Haaland to Bayern
Kahn was also asked about the chances of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland coming to Bayern, possibly as a Lewandowski replacement.
While Kahn acknowledged Bayern would consider Haaland, he admits that the financial implications make the move highly unlikely.
“Haaland? I don’t think we would be doing our job properly if we didn’t consider such a young striker,” Kahn said. “He’s an excellent striker and a very interesting player for the future. But financial dimensions are beyond our imagination”.
Haaland is widely expected to move away from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with European heavyweights Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona all chasing his signature.
Bayern working on new Muller, Gnabry, Neuer deals
Aside from Lewandowski, Bayern Munich are also working on new deals for the German trio of Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, and captain Manuel Neuer.
Top football insider Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the agreement on Muller’s contract extension is just a “matter of time.”
Bayern president Herbert Hainer also commented that the Muller and Neuer contract talks are in an “advanced stage”.
Although, the Gnabry contract talks are still ongoing and an agreement is not quite imminent.
The 32-year-old Muller is having another terrific season for Bayern with seven goals and a league-leading 16 assists. Gnabry has also been a great contributor for the German champions with 12 goals and five assists.
Bayern closing in on deals for Ajax duo
Romano has also reported that Bayern are in the final stages of negotiations for the Ajax duo of full-back Noussair Mazraoui and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and expects the two to join the German champions eventually.
The 19-year-old Gravenberch is one of the top midfield prospects in Europe and has been an integral part in Ajax’s success over the last two seasons. He will add some much-needed depth for Bayern at central midfield, which was exposed as a weakness amid Leon Goretzka’s lengthy injury layoff.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Mazraoui is set to provide some competition for Benjamin Pavard at right-back. Bouna Sarr has not impressed in his limited opportunities to play at Bayern since his arrival in 2020.
Borussia Dortmund targeting midfield duo
The Bundesliga 2022 odds once again had Borussia Dortmund as the closest challengers to Bayern. But they are a distant second to Bayern and have a lot of work to do in order to close the gap. But BVB are already lining up their top targets for this summer’s transfer window.
With the deal for Bayern defender Niklas Sule already sealed and Red Bull Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi being eyed as Erling Haaland’s replacement, Dortmund are also keen on deals for two midfielders in Wolfsburg’s Xaver Schlager and RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer.
The 24-year-old Laimer has had a strong season at Leipzig with four goals and four assists in the Bundesliga. That includes a fantastic performance against Dortmund where he had two goals and an assist.
