Bayern Munich vs Hannover 96
Bayern Munich had the opportunity to all but secure yet another Bundesliga title after Borussia Dortmund utterly collapsed in the Revierderby. However, the leaders also suffered their own slip-up as they could only draw against second-from-bottom side Nurnberg.
While the Bundesliga 2019 odds still favour Bayern to win a seventh consecutive title with just three matches remaining in the season, they will be eager to avoid another misstep as they host the team at the bottom of the relegation “race,” Hannover.
Defeat would put another nail in Hannover’s coffin as they edge closer to a return to the second division. But after going on a disastrous losing skid, the last-placed side has actually strung together a couple of decent results and will look to keep that going against the German giants.
Talking Points
Bayern get a wake-up call
After Dortmund got demolished by Schalke in their derby match, Bayern could’ve gone a commanding four points clear atop the table if they beat Nurnberg, which seemed like a simple enough task.
But as SBOBET noted, Nurnberg was not going to be a walk in the park for the champions, and so it proved as they only escaped with a 1-1 draw.
Surely, though, Bayern will have learned their lesson and not make the same mistake again in their next match against Hannover.
The fact that Bayern will be at home just about guarantees victory given how dominant Bayern have been at the Allianz. The Bavarians have won each of their last nine Bundesliga matches at home.
They’ve scored at least three goals in six of those games and five or more in three, which is certainly impressive. But even more impressive is that their defence has kept clean sheets in seven of those nine games, including five in a row.
With all of those factors in mind, it would likely take something extraordinary for Bayern to not come away with all three points in convincing fashion at home.
Hannover delaying inevitable drop
Hannover’s time in the German top-flight is coming to an end. After gaining promotion in 2017, Die Roten are going back down as they are dead-last in the table with just 18 points in 31 matches.
It’s simply been a dreadful season for Hannover, who have suffered a lot of losing. They recently went on a stretch of 12 losses in 13 games, including eight in a row. However, their Bundesliga 2019 results have finally been trending upward of late, which has delayed their seemingly inevitable relegation.
They put an end to their horrendous run when they got a goalless draw at Hertha Berlin. And last week, they finally won their first game since early February as they beat Mainz, 1-0. That was just Hannover’s fourth win of the season, all of which have come at home.
On the other hand, their away form has been quite awful. Aside from going winless, they have also allowed 40 goals, which is tied for the most in the league. Their goalless draw against Hertha was their first away clean sheet all season.
While Hannover have successfully kept back-to-back clean sheets, it’s highly unlikely that they can continue that run at the Allianz, with Bayern unlikely to repeat the same mistakes they made against another relegation-bound side in Nurnberg last week.
History
Bayern and Hannover have met 57 times in total. Unsurprisingly, Bayern have a massive advantage with 41 wins. Hannover have won just nine times, and there have been seven draws.
The recent history between Bayern and Hannover is just about as one-sided as it gets. Bayern have won the last 12 meetings in a row between the two teams.
Hannover’s last victory against Bayern came in 2011. Meanwhile, their last win over Bayern in Munich came all the way back in 2006.
Betting Tip
Bayern Munich vs Hannover 96 | Under 4.50 Goals @ 1.93 | |
May 04, 21:30 (GMT+8) |
SBOBET currently has Hannover priced at an astronomical 44.00 to beat Bayern away, which tells you all you need to know about just how improbable a Bayern defeat figures to be.
After their misstep against Nurnberg, expect Bayern to be a lot more ruthless in terms of taking care of business at home. That likely means a lot of goals from the hosts.
But just how many? There’s the rub. Bayern recently went a three-game stretch where they put at least five goals past their opponents at home, including Dortmund. And while Hannover are unlikely to keep another clean sheet, they have at least shown that they are not just going to roll over and get smashed.
Therefore, it seems like the most logical play is to bet on the total to go under 4.50 goals in this game, which Bayern should still win comfortably.
