Bundesliga: Are Bayern Munich Planning For One More Move?

countdown banner

The pre-season is in full swing here in the Bundesliga. And as the 2021/22 season is drawing near, all 18 German top-flight clubs are doing their best to prepare for the new journey ahead.

Bayern Munich’s quest for No. 10 is going to be the main story in the new season, and all eyes are going to be on them since they have the biggest targets on their backs.

The Bavarian giants have retooled their squad this summer since they’ve brought in new players and a new head coach, but recent reports suggest that they’re not done just yet.

The departures of Jerome Boateng and David Alaba suggest that Bayern Munich may need one more centre-back and one midfielder, which is why they continue to be active in the transfer market.

RB Leipzig might lose another key piece

Marcel Sabitzer and the RB RB Leipzig are aiming for a win in the Bundesliga 2021/22 season

After weeks of inactivity in the transfer window, things have picked up in Germany as Bayern Munich confirmed their plans to acquire Marcel Sabitzer from RB Leipzig.

Die Bayern have been looking to bolster their midfield depth this summer, and Marcel Sabitzer fits the profile since he has worked with Julian Nagelsmann before in Leipzig.

The 27-year-old is on the last year of his current contract with RB Leipzig. And given how well he’s played last term, the interest on Sabitzer is not surprising at all.

Marcel Sabitzer can contribute right away if he decides to move to Bavaria. Thiago has been underwhelming since joining from Liverpool last term, while Marc Roca is injured and Corentin Tolisso looks to be on his way out of the club.

He can play in various midfield positions which should help Bayern Munich immensely. A midfield trio of Marcel Sabitzer, Leon Goretzka, and Joshua Kimmich is indeed scary for opponents.

Signing the Austrian international won’t hurt Bayern Munich financially considering his contract situation with his current club. Die Bayern can get him at around €20-M, which is a cut-price deal compared to the other midfielders in the market.

Bayern Munich have already completed the transfers of Dayot Upamecano and Julian Nagelsmann and getting Marcel Sabitzer before the end of the transfer window will definitely increase their Bundesliga 2021 odds to win their 10th consecutive title next term.

Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski are staying put for now

The Bundesliga has been the home to some of the best strikers in the planet, which is why it’s normal to hear the names of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in transfer talks.

Premier League side Chelsea have been aggressive in searching for a world-class striker and the Blues have identified these two as their main targets this summer.

Unfortunately for Thomas Tuchel’s side, their offers for Haaland and Lewandowski were rejected by BVB and Die Bayern.

Borussia Dortmund couldn’t afford to let the Norwegian sensation go after already losing Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, so they didn’t bite on Chelsea’s tempting £130-M transfer fee.

BVB are expected to challenge the Bavarian giants in the upcoming season and Erling Haaland is going to be one of the biggest reasons why they can pull off the impossible.

On the other hand, the Blues were willing to offer €50-M for Robert Lewandowski. But the big Pole is coming off of a career season last term which is why Die Bayern held out on the negotiations.

Borussia Monchengladbach looking good in pre-season

Gladbach have been solid this pre-season. They have played five friendlies this past month and they’ve accumulated three wins, one loss, and one draw.

One of those wins came against Bayern Munich as the Foals scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena.

These two teams are set to open the curtains for the 2021/22 season so there was some hype heading into this contest.

Granted, that most household names were absent in this contest, Bundesliga fans got a glimpse of what to expect from Borussia Monchengladbach under Adi Hutter this upcoming season.

Bayern Munich were in control at the start when they had a couple of chances but they weren’t able to convert.

However, Borussia Monchengladbach improved in the second half, which led to a goal from Hannes Wolf near the hour mark when he volleyed in a cross from Joe Scally. 17 minutes later, Michael Wentzel got into the scoresheet when he squeezed in a shot from a difficult angle to secure the victory.

The Foals are set on returning to European football next season. And as long as they keep their core intact, they can definitely achieve their objective while pulling off some surprises in the process.
