Russia vs Spain

Both Russia and Spain will look to prove a point when they meet in St. Petersburg for an international friendly.

For the casual sports betting fan, football games like this matter little. However, the two nations will still aim for the win not only to boost their confidence but also to show world football that they are more than ready for next summer’s festivities.

After their underwhelming performance in the Confederations Cup last June, the Russians will hope to hit the ground running for their World Cup bid on home soil. They automatically qualified for the big event as hosts, but that also meant they have little competition to prepare for it.

With that said, Stanislav Cherchesov’s side will surely make the most of this match considering the limited time and opportunities they have.

Spain, on the other hand, are one of the favourites to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy in 2018. They are ranked eighth in the World and are currently in a 15-game unbeaten run.

Nonetheless, following their poor showing and eventual Round-of-16 exit at last summer’s European Championship, they now lag behind in online betting.

Russia lost to Argentina in their latest friendly, but they did great defensively and held on for 85 minutes before a late Sergio Aguero goal doomed their chances of pulling off an impressive draw against the fourth-ranked Argentines.

Meanwhile, Spain continued their dominant run with a 5-0 friendly victory over Costa Rica, bringing their tally to 20 goals in their last five matches in all competitions.

David Silva scored twice in the game, and there’s no doubt he will look to find the back of the net again. The same goes for Alvaro Morata, who has now scored in his last four appearances for Julen Lopetegui’s outfit.

It has been almost a decade since Russia and Spain met, but the latter remain the favourite to get the victory here. However, if keeper Igor Akinfeev can replicate his excellent performance against Argentina, the home team should be able to make life hard for the visitors.

I think Spain have too much quality to lose, but I believe Russia can restrain them and limit their scoring. If you’re punting, Goals Under 2.25 @ 2.17 is the best way to go.
