Paolo Guerrero, Steph Curry and Brazil Win the (Sports) World!

countdown banner

Paolo Guerrero, Steph Curry and Brazil have the sports world at their feet, well at least for today.

Peru skipper Guerrero made a brilliant return to his team after a Swiss supreme court ruling put his doping ban on hold. Meanwhile, Steph Curry lit up the NBA Finals with a record-breaking three-point display.

And speaking about returns, Neymar played his first game since February to give Brazil their 16th win under boss Tite!

Paolo Guerrero makes stunning return after doping controversy

SBOBET Blog features Paolo Guerrero and how he inspired Peru to win over Saudi and his huge role in World Cup
Returning Paolo Guerrero scored twice for Peru in win over Saudi Arabia

Paolo Guerrero has shown football fans why Peru are so concerned that he might miss the World Cup.

The 34-year-old forward—who Peru feared would be out for the World Cup due to a doping controversy—scored twice for the Peruvians as they beat Russia-bound Saudi Arabia 3-0 in a friendly at Kybunpark in St. Gallen.

Guerrero scored on both sides of the interval, with his second a 64th-minute header that brought the Peruvian crowd to their feet.

Andre Carillo opened the scoring for Peru before Guerrero’s double sunk Saudi Arabia who will head to the FIFA summer event as the lowest-ranked nation.

Indeed, Guerrero looked every bit the inspirational leader for Peru, providing the nation with a much-needed passion for the game and killer instinct to win.

Earlier last month, Guerrero was handed a 14-month ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) for an alleged drugs violation. He tested positive for cocaine metabolites at a World Cup qualifying game against Argentina last October.

However, the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland granted an interim order to freeze Guerrero’s ban to allow him to play for the World Cup. The ruling cited that the ban should not apply until his appeal is heard in full after FIFA 2018.

Steph Curry passes Ray Allen for new NBA Finals 3-point record

NBA Highlights: Stephen Curry owms game 2 with new 3-point made record
Stephen Curry has surpassed Ray Allen for most three-pointers made in an NBA Finals game

Steph Curry is undoubtedly one of the greatest shooters of all time. And he let everyone know that with his performance in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Curry set a new mark for the most three-pointers made in an NBA Finals game, hitting nine threes to pace the Golden State Warriors to a 122-103 thrashing of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 30-year-old sharpshooter hit five threes in the fourth quarter alone to finish 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, surpassing the record made by Ray Allen who banked eight triples for the Boston Celtics in 2010.

“As I’ve gone through my career I’ve been blessed to play, Reggie (Miller) and Ray Allen are always two names that pop up on that list, and all the 3-point shooters out there,” Curry said after the game via ESPN. “So it’s an honour to be mentioned with all those names, that’s pretty special.”

Furthermore, Curry also reached 90 NBA Finals three-pointers to topple LeBron James(85 triples) for the most in finals history.

Curry finished with a game-high 33 points on top of eight assists and seven rebounds as the Warriors took a commanding 2-0 series lead.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr, meanwhile, has nothing but praises for his mercurial guard after hitting the milestone mark.

“He was tremendous,” Kerr said. “Nine 3’s and seemed to hit a big shot every time we needed one.”

Sweet 16 for Brazil, manager Tite as Neymar returns

Football news: Brazil manager Tite gets 16th in Neymar's triumphant return
Neymar returns for Brazil in friendly with Croatia to give manager Tite his 16th win

Brazil are ready for the World Cup.

After their embarrassing exit in the 2014 version of the event, the Brazilians showed they are now a different team under Tite.

The Selecao gave the 57-year-old manager his 16th win as Brazil coach with a 2-0 drubbing of Croatia in a friendly. Neymar, who returned after more than three months out due to injury, sparked the Brazilians as he scored the opening goal in the second half.

Roberto Firmino, meanwhile, fired their second in added time to put the result beyond doubt. Brazil have now scored 44 goals and have kept 15 clean sheets, all while conceding only five with Tite at the helm.

With the win, Tite obtained a 16-3-1 win-draw-loss record, an amazing job considering that the five-time World Cup winners hit rock-bottom just a couple of years ago.

As mentioned in our World Cup preview of Brazil, the new manager has inspired the nation to a remarkable turnaround. After placing just sixth earlier in the South America qualifiers, he guided them to become the first nation to book a ticket for the Russian event.

Brazil still have an upcoming friendly against Austria before entering the World Cup group stage where they are pitted against Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia.
