Utah Jazz 104-115 Boston Celtics
Boston snapped Utah’s four-game winning streak, thanks to Isaiah Thomas who recorded 29 points and a career-high 15 assists. Gordon Hayward was in tune for the Jazz as he banked 23 points, but the Celtics were too much for him with Jae Crowder and Al Horford also putting up big numbers for the home team.
Indiana Pacers 121-116 Detroit Pistons
The Pacers took advantage of the Pistons’ glaring defensive issues to take the W and stay in the top eight of the Eastern Conference. Paul George and Myles Turner, as expected, carried much of the scoring load for Indiana, grabbing 32 and 17 respectively on 58 percent shooting.
Washington Wizards 105-113 Dallas Mavericks
A huge second half—capped by a 26-17 fourth quarter—propelled the Mavericks over the Wizards who boasted a balanced offence. Harrison Barnes and Deron Williams played well to lead the charge for Dallas, but it was the team’s 17 made three-pointers on 53.1 percent shooting that made the difference in the contest.
Toronto Raptors 82-110 San Antonio Spurs
Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge both impressed in the Spurs’ rout of their Eastern Conference counterpart.
San Antonio led by more than 30 points in the game, and it was their defence on Kyle Lowry that allowed them to pull away early. Toronto’s offence also never thrived with Lowry struggling, so DeMar DeRozan was given the tough task of carrying the team alone.
Sacramento Kings 120-113 Denver Nuggets
Six players scored in double figures for Denver, but they didn’t take care of the ball well which cost them the game. The Nuggets ended with 14 turnovers as compared to Sacramento who only had eight.
DeMarcus Cousins’ 31 points and Darren Collison’s 26 also proved to be too big to overcome for Denver who only have Danilo Gallinari scoring more than 20 points.
Miami Heat 90-99 Phoenix Suns
With only eight players available, Miami didn’t stand a chance against Phoenix. Devin Booker scored 27 points – 18 in the second half – to pace the Suns while rookie Marquese Chriss notched a career-best 18 points.
It also didn’t help the Heat that Hassan Whiteside is still out, leaving Tyson Chandler unchallenged on the painted area.
Memphis Grizzlies 102-116 Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers got their revenge from their December defeat, and they paid it back big time!
Julius Randle seized a triple-double to fuel Los Angeles while Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell were on target from beyond the arc, contributing five threes each in just the first half.
Another factor that helped the Lakers repel the Grizzlies was their assist number – 34 as compared to Memphis’ 18 – which reflects their brilliant ball distribution throughout.
