A 25-11 second quarter gave Houston the lead for good, and they never looked back as they thumped Sacramento at Toyota Center. James Harden was surprisingly quiet with 10 points, eight dimes and seven boards, but Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon came up big and recorded 25 and 17 points respectively.
Oklahoma City Thunder 94-108 San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio banked on Kawhi Leonard’s 36 points and eight rebounds to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Dallas last Monday. LaMarcus Aldridge also contributed with 25 points, helping the Spurs counter the double-double performances of Russell Westbrook, Steven Adams and Domantas Sabonis.
Charlotte Hornets 98-115 Portland Trail Blazers
Leading by as much as 24 points in the game, the Blazers never really gave the Hornets much of a fighting chance. Portland had an efficient shooting night from the field behind Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, but it was their dominance on the glass (51 rebounds to Charlotte’s 42) that made the difference as they pulled away come the second half.
Denver Nuggets 116-120 Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers snapped their three-game skid, thanks to Nick Young and the returning D’Angelo Russell. Young torched Denver from beyond the arc as he finished with 23 points, while Russell—who returned after sustaining a sprained MCL and a strained calf—sizzled with 22 points, ten assists and seven boards to delight the Staples Center crowd.
Denver managed to keep the game close with six players registering double-digit scores, though the absence of Nikola Jokic made life hard for them.
