Golden State Warriors 129-115 San Antonio Spurs
We were expecting a much more exciting series than this, but what can we do?
Betting websites already had the Warriors sweeping the Spurs and advance to the playoffs long before tip-off, and the Dubs did not spare any time seeing the depleted San Antonio Spurs off.
It’s expected that Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry did the most significant damage to San Antonio. The two All-NBA Second Teamers proved the betting tips right by combining for 65 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists. Draymond Green did a fine job in Zaza Pachulia’s spot with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
While Klay Thompson had another poor offensive showing for the Dubs, the rest of the star lineup did more than enough to comfortably clinch the series and sweep the Spurs.
The Spurs were done in by the absence of Kawhi Leonard but still did the city proud with their play. Jonathon Simmons, Patty Mills, Pau Gasol and Kyle Anderson had decent scoring nights for San Antonio. Star centre LaMarcus Aldridge was limited by Mike Brown’s game-plans and settled for a subpar stat line of 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Manu Ginobili’s future going forward is still in a flux, but the long-time Spur also had a decent game at the AT&T Center. He got 15 points, 1 rebound, 7 assists and 3 steals in 32 minutes of action. This is a decent performance for The Magician should this be his last game for the Spurs.
Many will be saying that the Warriors had a terribly easy road to the playoffs. Leonard and Tony Parker were unavailable for SA due to injury, weakening the squad. It’s laudable that Gregg Popovich did not lose by at least twenty points, given the quality of players he was up against.
The Warriors should have enough rest to prepare for their eventual Finals opponents, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
