NBA: OKC Looking to Continue to Set the Pace in the Western Conference

countdown banner

Unlike in the Eastern Conference, where the Celtics are still on top, it is getting tight in the Western Conference, as the Nuggets are right up there with the Thunder at the top with 45 wins each, and both NBA teams are on a three-game winning streak.

But the Thunder can extend their lead in the Western Conference tomorrow if they win against the Pacers, who have had a mixed bag of NBA 2024 results lately.

Elsewhere, the Knicks, Grizzlies, Spurs, Jazz, Clippers, and Kings are set to host the Sixers, Wizards, Rockets, Celtics, Timberwolves, and Bucks, respectively.

Washington Wizards @ Memphis Grizzlies

Two bad NBA teams are going to go at it, but neither side is incentivised to get a win. The SBOTOP NBA 2024 odds of getting a high draft lottery pick are in favour of the Wizards since they currently have the worst record, with only 11 wins and 53 losses.

However, believe it or not, the Wizards come into this game in better form because they’ve won two straight, while the Grizzlies have lost two in a row.

The reason why the Wizards are on a roll is because of Kyle Kuzma, who is averaging 28.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per contest in five appearances so far this month.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies have seen a revolving door of personnel lately. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Vince Williams Jr. are ruled out for this game due to injuries, so Santi Aldama, Luke Kennard, and Jake LaRavia will get to play more than usual.

Indiana Pacers @ Oklahoma City Thunder

After losing to the Lakers last week, the Thunder have posted three wins in a row to reclaim the top spot in the Western Conference.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to show why he’s a dark horse MVP candidate, as during this stretch, he has averaged 32.3 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per contest. With Jalen Williams iffy to play due to an ankle injury, SGA will likely have to shoulder more load on the offencive end.

The Pacers have only won two of their last five, as Tyrese Haliburton’s overall production has dipped, only averaging 14.8 points and 8.6 assists per game this March.

Boston Celtics @ Utah Jazz

The Celtics became the first team to reach 50 wins this season after winning two road games in a row against the Suns and the Blazers.

Against the Blazers earlier today, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combined for 53 points. Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were both sidelined with injuries, but they might play tomorrow.

The Jazz, meanwhile, still have a puncher’s chance of making it to the play-in tournament, but they must end their losing streak. Injuries have played a role in their struggles, as Lauri Markkanen (quad) and Taylor Hendricks (toe) remain sidelined.

The bright spots for Utah have been Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, and John Collins, who are averaging 18.2, 17.3, and 14.6 points per game, respectively, this season.

Minnesota Timberwolves @ LA Clippers

Karl-Anthony Towns remains uncertain to play in the Minnesota Timberwolves' upcoming NBA game against the LA Clippers
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns celebrates after scoring during NBA game against Charlotte Hornets

The Timberwolves haven’t been the same since Karl-Anthony Towns was out indefinitely due to a torn meniscus. With KAT sidelined, Naz Reid has taken his spot in the starting lineup, and he’s doing well. However, that means that their bench production has suffered.

And it will only get worse for Minnesota if Anthony Edwards doesn’t play tomorrow. Edwards has been listed as questionable to play due to an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard (groin) and Paul George (knee) sat out on Sunday in their loss against the Bucks, so there’s a huge chance that both of them will return to action for the Clippers tomorrow.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Sacramento Kings

Speaking of the Bucks, the win that they had over the Clippers put an end to their two-game skid. As a result, they are still the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

Damian Lillard seems to have regained his form as of late, as he has averaged 24.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game over his last 10 games, and he just dropped 35 points (including 16 points in the final period) on Sunday.

Besides Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo has also been on a tear, averaging 31.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists since the All-Star break.

However, the Kings should be able to keep up since Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox continue to be elite. Sabonis, in particular, has been a model of consistency for Sacramento this season because he has now extended his double-double streak to 46 games.
