NBA: Nuggets, Timberwolves Convene in Colossal West Matchup

countdown banner

Indeed, there is no comfort for the top NBA teams in the Western Conference because it continues to get tighter by the day, and we’re in for another doozy.

That is because two of the top three teams in the Western Conference, the Nuggets and the Timberwolves, who share identical 47-21 records, are set to square off at Target Center in what will be the main event of tomorrow’s lean slate.

The Thunder and their supporters will surely tune in to tomorrow’s NBA 2024 updates about this aforementioned match.

Elsewhere, the Hornets, Rockets, Pelicans, and Mavericks are set to visit the Magic, Wizards, Nets, and Spurs to round out the five-game schedule.

Learn more about these games, as SBOTOP is here today to preview them one by one.

Charlotte Hornets @ Orlando Magic

The Magic plan to make it four wins on the bounce in order to maintain their pace in the Eastern Conference. As of this writing, they have a 40-28 record.

During their three-game winning streak, Paolo Banchero has been their go-to guy. Since the beginning of March, the 2023 Rookie of the Year has been averaging 23.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.

In the same period, Franz Wagner is also doing great for Orlando, averaging 16.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.

The Hornets have currently lost their last two, but they don’t mind losing more games to improve their NBA 2024 odds of getting a high lottery pick. With LaMelo Ball still out indefinitely, Charlotte have leaned on Grant Williams, Miles Bridges, and Vasilije Micic for production.

Houston Rockets @ Washington Wizards

The Rockets currently own the second-longest winning streak in the NBA at five consecutive games, and they have a shot to make it into the play-in picture if they keep this up.

Despite Alperen Sengun facing a long spell on the sidelines due to a leg injury, Houston managed to keep their momentum going because Jalen Green is peaking at the right time.

In his last two outings, Green has been averaging 31.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. At the same time, his teammate, Fred VanVleet, is averaging 20.1 points, 10.0 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game in March.

The Wizards dropped their fourth consecutive game last time out because they were without Kyle Kuzma (shoulder), Tyus Jones (back), Marvin Bagley (back), Deni Avdija (knee), Landry Shamet (calf), and Bilal Coulibaly (wrist).

New Orleans Pelicans @ Brooklyn Nets

Don’t look now, but the Pelicans are now a top five team in the Western Conference, and they might make it to the top four if they manage to extend their winning streak to three games tomorrow.

The Pelicans hope to extend their winning streak in the NBA as they face off against the Nets
New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson shoots the ball against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Smoothie King Center.

Zion Williamson has been putting in a lot of work for New Orleans, scoring at least 25 points in four consecutive games. Against the Blazers on Saturday, he recorded his second 20-point double-double in his last five games.

The Nets, meanwhile, are on a three-game losing streak as Mikal Bridges’ scoring woes continue. The 27-year-old swingman has failed to score at least 20 points in his last three appearances, shooting at a putrid 29-per cent from the field.

Dallas Mavericks @ San Antonio Spurs

Confidence is on a high for the Mavericks after they defeated the Nuggets in dramatic fashion, thanks to Kyrie Irving’s incredible lefty hook shot game winner. Even Luka Doncic himself couldn’t believe it.

Doncic and Irving combined for 61 points against the defending champions, and the Mavericks will need something similar from the two of them in another huge Texas showdown at San Antonio.

The Spurs will continue to lean on the broad shoulders of their rookie superstar, Victor Wembanyama, who continues to make history in the NBA.

On Sunday, Wemby became the first player in league history to have at least 30 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks while shooting 50-per cent from the field in an overtime win against the Nets.

Denver Nuggets @ Minnesota Timberwolves

For the Timberwolves to make their way to the top of the Western Conference, they must bring their A-game against the Nuggets, but it is easier said than done.

Minnesota can ill-afford to lose Rudy Gobert for another game since he could give Nikola Jokic fits. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year had to sit out on Monday against the Jazz due to a strained rib.

As for the Nuggets, they were on a five-game winning streak before they lost to the Mavericks. Since the beginning of March, Nikola Jokic is averaging 26.5 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
