NBA: Warriors Exploring Options, Stars Join in 2K Tourney

countdown banner

With the NBA season still suspended, our favourite players have been trying to make themselves busy by engaging into different hobbies.

Some players who have their home gyms are trying to keep themselves fit while others have turned to various forms of entertainment – such as making Tiktok videos or even unleash their gaming alter egos.

There are at least some good NBA 2020 news over these past few days as COVID-19 positive players are now fully recovered. My fellow SBOBET writer pointed out that Marcus Smart, Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, and Christian Wood are now symptom-free.

And last but not the least, our idols have shown their big hearts by continuously providing relief efforts for the frontliners who have been working hard 24/7.

Today, let’s take a look on how everyone in the NBA are still coping with the coronavirus pandemic.

What will Golden State do with their first round pick?

The Warriors have not selected No. 1 overall in the draft since 1995. And the last time they did, they picked Maryland alum Joe Smith who ended up having a lacklustre career in the league.

After dominating the NBA for the better part of the decade, Golden State are now in unfamiliar territory as they currently own one of the league’s worst records, effectively giving them high NBA 2020 odds of securing a top-three pick.

Now with the season suspended, other than providing relief efforts for COVID-19, it would be wise for the Warriors management to plot their next move in preparation for the next season.

With Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green expected to be healthy next year, adding a quality player via their top pick should propel them back to title talks.

There are shiny young prospects out there for Golden State to acquire. They can choose the likes of either LaMelo Ball, RJ Hampton, James Wiseman, or even Anthony Edwards.

All of them are intriguing to say the least as they would offer different skills that the Warriors can utilize.

While several reports indicate that the Warriors are keen on picking explosive swingman Anthony Edwards, they have also considered trading that pick for an established veteran.

The NBA lottery is initially scheduled on May 19, but it’s widely anticipated that the Association’s calendar will be pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. Until then, the Warriors will have a lot of time to think about their options.

Previously infected players plan on giving back

As a way to help our doctors in curbing the increasing coronavirus cases, previously infected players have expressed their intent to aid them in their continuous experiments.

One way of helping them is by participating in an initiative called the National COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Project. The convalescent plasma therapy is done when the blood donated by the recovered patient is utilized to fight the virus with its antibodies.

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart is one of the players planning to participate after being cleared of the virus earlier this week, while others are expected to join in sooner or later.

This is a welcome development for scientists who are still researching about the coronavirus. The NBA, along with Dr. Michael Joyner, has been working together in order to find a suitable avenue for their blood donations.

Big-time players will compete in NBA 2K20 competition

NBA players will continue to jostle for basketball supremacy, albeit in a different setting this time around.

In an official report by the league website, 16 of them will compete in a players-only NBA 2K20 tourney starting tomorrow.

Participants include: Kevin Durant, Trae Young, Derrick Jones Jr., Harrison Barnes, Montrezl Harrell, Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, Deandre Ayton, Andre Drummond, Demarcus Cousins, Devin Booker, Michael Porter Jr., Rui Hachimura, Donovan Mitchell, Patrick Beverley, and Hassan Whiteside.

These players will go head-to-head in a single elimination format in the earlier rounds while the semis and the finals will be best-of-three.

The last man standing will be crowned as the NBA 2K20 champion and he can select his charity beneficiary to receive the $100,000 donation from 2K, the NBA, and the NBPA.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the NBA and NBPA to bring basketball back to fans throughout the world and to help those in need during these uncertain times. Entertainment, especially sports, has the ability to bring communities together – including athletes, fans and families – and we hope that everyone will enjoy the tournament,” said 2K exec Jason Argent.
