NBA Preview: The League’s Best Fight to Maintain Dominance

countdown banner

The best teams in the NBA will be playing in what will be a day full of intriguing matches.

Some of the teams favoured before the season’s start are nowhere near the top while some unexpected names are enjoying a fantastic run of form. A bit of luck and plenty of good basketball helped the current crop of top dogs reach the positions where they are today.

This piece will cover a whopping 10 games of pure basketball action. We will see the current leaders of the East and West try to extend their reigns at the top. Will these leaders be able to hold onto their positions until the playoffs?

Golden State Warriors @ Cleveland Cavaliers (December 6, 07:00 GMT+8)

Due to the on- and off-court struggles the Dubs experienced lately, it can’t be helped that the Warriors are a bit out of the Western Conference standings at fourth. With Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins also still not cleared to play, the Warriors are essentially playing an incomplete iteration of their death lineup.

However, there should be no way that the Dubs will struggle against the Cleveland Cavaliers. With Jordan Clarkson‘s 16 points a game leading the team in scoring, there should be no problem for Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant to overcome the Cavs.

Denver Nuggets @ Orlando Magic (December 6, 07:00 GMT+8)

The Nuggets have played well to start the season, winning most of their home games and maintaining a winning record on the road. Nikola Jokivc and Jamal Murray are instrumental in the huge success Mike Malone’s team is having this season. However, the injury bug has robbed them of a few important players.

The Magic are also having a superb season in the weaker Eastern Conference as they currently hold the eighth spot. With the way Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon have been leading the front for Orlando, I don’t see a reason for this match not to become an exciting affair.

Washington Wizards @ Atlanta Hawks (December 6, 07:30 GMT+8)

The Washington Wizards have been a mess recently that even the fans are affected with what’s been happening on and off the floor. While they have won their last two games, the thought of blowing the current team up and rebuilding still looms over the team’s head.

Their coming road game against the Atlanta Hawks will help them assess things better. The Wizards are terrible team away from home, but the Hawks have been just as terrible at the State Farm Arena. I expect the Wizards to easily cruise past Trae Young‘s fledgeling team.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Brooklyn Nets (December 6, 07:30 GMT+8)

NBA: Can Brooklyn Nets stand a chance against Thunders?
Paul George and Russell Westbrook have been leading Oklahoma City Thunder

The NBA 2018 odds are overwhelmingly in favour of the Thunder winning over the hapless Nets. Paul George and Russell Westbrook have been doing a fine job on leading the Thunder: George leads the team with his 23.2 ppg and 7.8 rpg while Westbrook is still a walking triple-double.

I don’t think D’Angelo Russell‘s average splits of 18.4 points and 3.7 assists can help the Nets pull off an impossible feat and defend the Barclays Center against their guests.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Toronto Raptors (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

There’s nothing more dangerous than a man with a chip on his shoulder, and Kawhi Leonard will definitely be a man on a mission when his Toronto Raptors trade blows with Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and the rest of the Philadelphia 76ers at the Air Canada Centre.

Embiid has been on a tear for Philly, and Butler is adding value to the squad offensively and defensively. However, Toronto have been playing outstanding basketball with Leonard and Kyle Lowry leading the charge. This match could be the Eastern Conference Finals preview, so this game is a must-watch!

LA Clippers @ Memphis Grizzlies (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

These two teams have gone beyond what was expected of them during the pre-season and have made plenty of NBA 2018 news with the way they have been playing lately.

The FedEx Forum has reestablished itself as a fortress as both Mike Conley and Marc Gasol leading the charge for a highly motivated Grizzlies team. Meanwhile, The Clippers have been playing inspired basketball under Doc Rivers, and players like Tobias Harris, Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams are finding their groove.

This will be an intriguing game for plenty of SBOBET NBA fans as both teams will likely show us conflicting styles of play!

Detroit Pistons @ Milwaukee Bucks (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

The Bucks are second in the Eastern Conference thanks to the combined genius of Mike Budenholzer and the sheer athletic abilities of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, Blake Griffin’s career blossomed once more to help the Pistons snag fourth in the very open conference.

We will see an exciting duel between these two stars, but the game isn’t reliant on the two stars alone. The rest of the players on the court will likely decide which of the two teams will triumph in this Bradley Center duel.

Charlotte Hornets @ Minnesota Timberwolves (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

This is a clash between two teams that are struggling to get above .500 and compete for playoff positions.

While Minnesota have somewhat thrived after Butler’s departure, the glaring problem that both Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins cannot lead their team becomes all the more obvious. Meanwhile, Kemba Walker is the only bright spot in a rather disappointing Charlotte roster.

We might see some fireworks from this match, but I don’t expect much.

Dallas Mavericks @ New Orleans Pelicans (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

NBA: Luka Doncic is aiming to win Rookie of the year
Luka Doncic is expected to perform great for Dallas Mavericks

The excitement surrounding the American Airlines Center is palpable. Luka Doncic is currently the runaway Rookie of the Year winner, but his hip might keep him off the game. The sheer number of players on the injury list might not assure a full-strength Mavericks team against Anthony Davis and the Pelicans.

San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Lakers (December 6, 08:00 GMT+8)

Gregg Popovich revealed to the media that he is finding basketball’s three-heavy style to be less fun lately, and the current record of the Spurs back his words. While the odds are against them when they visit LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, there is a reason to believe that the Spurs can at least put up a good fight.
