Australia 161/5 – 155/9 England
A brilliant performance from all-rounder Glenn Maxwell inspired Australia to a pulsating T20 win in Hobart to give a real treat for cricket and sports betting fans.
Before a ball was bowled, the betting odds pointed to an Aussie win, but live betting players saw the odds ebb and flow with fortunes in the game, as England threatened to run away with it. But it was Maxwell who stopped the Three Lions in their tracks, not once but twice.
First, he took three crucial wickets for ten runs as England looked to post a monster total. Then he smashed an unbeaten century to guide the Aussies home.
England started well, and a superb 50 from 36 balls by Dawid Malan helped to take his team to a dominant 94 for 2, only for the tourists to collapse to 127 for 8 as Maxwell dismissed Malan, skipper Eoin Morgan and the dangerous David Willey in a devastating two overs.
As England’s biggest hitter, Jos Buttler, also missed out, Chris Jordan got the tail wagging and the Three Lions eventually posted a competitive score of 155.
Willey began to make amends with the ball in an explosive first over, first trapping danger man David Warner, and then Chris Lynn with a peach to reduce the Aussies to 4 for 2. But that brought Maxwell to the crease and set the scene for his man-of-the match display.
There was controversy, shortly after he’d reached 50, when Jason Roy was convinced he’d caught him, but undeterred Maxwell went on to hit his magnificent 103 in 58 balls, including ten ‘4’s and four ‘6’’s, for a nine ball win.
That’s why he’s one of, if not the, best all-rounders in T20 cricket.
