Serie A: Inter Look to End Torino Troubles

Torino vs Inter Milan

Inter Milan are giving Juventus a run for their money in Serie A this season. The Nerazzurri are just a single point behind the leaders and defending champions in the table with a third of the season gone.

However, inter have not exactly been looking dominant despite four wins in their last five matches. And with every point so valuable, they will be eager to avoid a slip-up away from home as they visit Torino.

Il Toro put an emphatic end to their disastrous winless run as they thumped Brescia 4-0 prior to the international break.

Walter Mazzarri’s men will now look to build off of that confidence-boosting win and defy the Serie A 2019 odds against a side they’ve had surprising success against in recent years.

Talking Points

Torino showing signs of fight

Torino went into the international break on quite a high as they thrashed Brescia 4-0 away from home. Star striker Andrea Belotti bagged a first-half brace from the penalty spot, while Alex Berenguer also picked up a quick double in the final 15 minutes to seal the emphatic win.

Torino desperately needed a morale-boosting result after the disastrous string of Serie A 2019 results. Prior to that win, they had gone winless in their last six games (four losses, two draws).

However, they did give leaders and bitter rivals Juventus all they could handle at home in the Turin Derby and were a little unlucky to come away with a 1-0 defeat. They also held Napoli to a goalless draw, which makes their three-match winless run at home look a bit more understandable.

But still, they remain heavily reliant on Belotti to provide their goals. The Italian international has already scored seven of the team’s 15 goals this season. Although, four of those goals have come via the penalty spot.

On the other end, Torino’s defence has kept just one clean sheet in their first six home matches. But they still have the sixth-best home defensive record, allowing just six goals thus far.

Inter grinding out the results

Inter Milan just continue to pick up the results to keep pace with Juve. They’ve won three matches on the bounce, although they haven’t been especially convincing performances. In their last two wins against Bologna and Verona, in particular, they’ve had to come from behind in the second half to claim all three points.

Amid the team’s recent struggles, Antonio Conte has started making noise about the apparent lack of depth and quality in the Inter squad. That’s despite the fact that they splashed some serious cash on the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella over the summer.

Lukaku, in particular, has done his part to justify his hefty price tag. The Belgian striker — who was on target once again for his country against Russia — already has nine Serie A goals this campaign, which is second in the league behind Ciro Immobile.

However, it is a bit worrying that Inter’s defence has not played up to the usual standards of a Conte-coached side. The Nerazzurri have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven league matches. They also squandered a two-goal lead as they lost 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

They will have a glorious opportunity to finally end that disappointing skid as they take on Torino’s limited attack.

History

It may come as a surprise to many, but Torino have had quite an impressive record against Inter over the last six years. Since 2013, Torino have suffered just three defeats in 13 matches against Inter. They’ve also won three games themselves, while six matches have ended in a draw.

Torino are currently on a five-match unbeaten run against the Nerazzurri and have not lost their last three home matches (two wins and a draw).

Betting Tip

??
Torino vs Inter Milan Inter Milan 1X2 @ 1.83
November 24, 03:45 (GMT+8)

Despite being away from home, Inter are still the significant favourites according to the SBOBET odds. They are priced at 1.83 to win their fourth league match in a row, while Torino are 4.30 to take all three points at home. A draw is priced at 3.40.

While Inter have had their struggles against Torino in years past and have been rather unconvincing of late, I still have faith in their ability to pick up all three points in this match.

The international break will have given Antonio Conte sufficient time to regroup and work out some kinks in his side. Expect this to be the game where they finally put their Torino troubles to bed.
