Bundesliga: Bayern Keen on a Koln Battering

Bayern Munich vs Koln

Bayern Munich missed their opportunity to move back to the top of the Bundesliga table after they could only draw 1-1 with title challengers RB Leipzig.

With two draws in their first four games, the defending champions find themselves in an unfamiliar spot down in fourth. Bayern will look to keep pace at the top of the table when they face FC Koln this weekend.

The Billy Goats suffered up their third defeat in four matches this season after losing the Rhine Derby to rivals Borussia Monchengladbach. Needless to say, the Bundesliga 2019 betting odds don’t like their chances of bouncing back in Bavaria.

Talking Points

Bayern remain dominant

Don’t be fooled by the fact that Bayern Munich have dropped points in two of their first four matches; they are still one of the best sides in all of Europe.

A draw away from home against high-flying RB Leipzig was a creditable result even though they were unable to hold on to a third-minute lead following another Robert Lewandowski strike. Meanwhile, they have won their two Bundesliga matches 3-0 vs. Schalke and 6-1 vs. Mainz.

They’re also coming off another comfortable 3-0 win at home against Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League. Lewandowski was once again in the scoresheet, along with Kingsley Coman and Thomas Muller.

Lewandowski has been in sensational form this season, creating multiple Bundesliga 2019 highlights. He already has 10 goals in all competitions for Bayern, including seven in the league.

Lewandowski has also liked facing Koln over the years. He has four goals in his last six meetings against the Billy Goats.

Manager Niko Kovac would probably want a bit more production aside from his Polish superstar, though. Serge Gnabry has yet to score in the league, while high-profile loan signings Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic are still slowly being incorporated into the side.

Both Coutinho and Perisic started against Crvena Zvezda in midweek, though, and could make way for Muller and Gnabry against Koln.

Koln’s rough start to the season.

Koln are quickly getting reacquainted with how difficult life in the Bundesliga can be. The newly-promoted side have lost three of their first four matches this season and currently, find themselves down in 15th.

Although, one of those losses was against title contenders Borussia Dortmund, while the other was against fierce rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.

Koln had scored in their first three matches of the season before losing 1-0 to Gladbach. But they did still have 14 shots including seven on target — four more than Gladbach.

It won’t get much easier for the Billy Goats as they face a Bayern side which is tough to stop at home. Their defence, which has yet to keep a clean sheet this season, will be severely tested.

And in attack, they will continue to rely on the likes of Anthony Modeste and Jhon Cordoba to find a way through to goal.

Modeste is the last Koln player credited with scoring a goal against Bayern. He scored the equaliser in a 1-1 drawback in 2016. But the bad news is that Koln have scored just twice in their last six meetings against Bayern.

History

History has clearly not been on Koln’s side in this matchup against Bayern. The Bavarians have gone undefeated in their last 10 meetings against Koln, winning nine of them. Moreover, they have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight home matches against the Billy Goats.

Koln’s last Bundesliga win over Bayern came all the way back in 2011, and their last win in Munich was in 2009.

Betting Tip

??
Bayern Munich vs Koln Bayern Munich Asian Handicap -2.50 @ 1.98
September 21, 21:30 (GMT+8)

Unsurprisingly, SBOBET odds have Bayern as overwhelming 1.13 favourites on the 1X2 market, while Koln are an astronomical 19.50 to pull off the upset at the Allianz.

As those odds indicate, there’s only one likely winner in this match, and it’s Bayern. But there isn’t a ton of value in betting on Bayern on the 1X2 market.

So go with Bayern on the Asian Handicap instead. They are priced at 1.98 to win by 2.50 goals, which is very much in play. Dating back to last season, Bayern have won by three or more goals in seven out of their last 12 home games.

Bayern just have too much attacking firepower, and they will unleash them all against an overpowered Koln side that will struggle to cope en route to another comfortable home win.
