Bundesliga: Dauntless Dortmund Ready to Make It Five in a Row!

Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin

Borussia Dortmund are currently in a four-game winning streak in the Bundesliga, and they have a chance to make it five straight and extend their lead at the top of the table when they host the up-and-down Hertha Berlin.

BVB remain undefeated in the league after eight gameweeks and are already off to their brightest start in recent memory. In fact, before this year, Dortmund haven’t started a season with an eight-game unbeaten run at the turn of 2010.

They have three seven-game undefeated streaks to start the campaign, in 2013-14, 2015-16 and 2017-18. However, this season is unlike any other year, especially with a ninth league title looking closer than ever.

Hertha Berlin shouldn’t be underestimated. After all, BVB have always had a hard time against the capital club. Nonetheless, Dortmund will certainly like their chance, thanks to their current form and, of course, home-court advantage.

Talking Points

Dortmund are in a whole other level this season. While they also had an impressive start last year, the difference in mentality is evident.

Many expected Dortmund to have a hard time figuring things out under new boss Lucien Favre. Also, they lost both top strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Michy Batshuayi, and there’s no clear leader in the team following their fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga.

Nevertheless, they have exceeded expectations and have now proven their title credentials, winning six and drawing twice—against the defensive-minded Hoffenheim and the feisty Hannover 96.

Favre’s charges also shrugged off all the pre-tournament concerns about their offence as they now lead the league in scoring with 27 goals. Even more remarkable, they did so while only allowing eight goals and keeping three clean sheets.

The team is not only roaring domestically though. Dortmund have also been on a tear in the Champions League, winning all of their matches so far. Most recently, they thrashed Atletico Madrid, scoring four goals against unarguably the best defence in Europe.

BVB’s resounding victory over Atletico is clear proof of how far they have progressed in just a short time, and confidence is surely oozing at Signal Iduna Park right now.

Paco Alcacer has been the biggest revelation for the club. After an unsuccessful spell with La Liga giants Barcelona, Alcacer was loaned to the German club on a deadline-day deal…and boy what a move it was for BVB!

The Spain international has only played 216 minutes for Dortmund so far, but he has already eight goals in all competitions to his name—an incredible 27 minutes per goal rate.

Alcacer has found the back of the net in their last three league games, so BVB are undoubtedly leaning on him to keep his scoring streak and help them maintain their own epic run.

It’s not only Alcacer to watch for Dortmund though, especially with Marco Reus and Axel Witsel showing their leadership qualities. Youngsters Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho have been impressive as well and are establishing themselves as the future of BVB football.

Hertha and manager Pal Dardai know the threat that the Black and Yellows bring, but it won’t be easy to close the gap between the difference in quality.

Although the Berliners took down reigning champions Bayern Munich last month, their stint this October has been far from ideal. They failed to score against Mainz 05 and allowed Freiburg to equalise and share the spoils in the following game.

Hertha are solid defensively, but they need the likes of Vedad Ibisevic, Mathew Leckie and Ondrej Duda to step up offensively if they want to grab the Bundesliga 2018 highlights and pull off an upset.

History

Dortmund and Hertha have played some tight matches in recent years, with three of their last five ending in a draw (excluding shootout).

In their two league fixtures last year, Dortmund won the game at Signal Iduna Park by a 2-0 scoreline. However, the Berliners got one back in the return fixture at Olympiastadion and played out a 1-1 stalemate.

The last time Hertha won against Dortmund was in March 2017, pulling off a 2-1  win behind goals from Marvin Plattenhardt and Salomon Kalou. Fortunately for the club, the two players remain with the team.

Betting Tip

??
Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin Under 3.00 @ 2.06
October 27, 21:30 (GMT+8)

It’s easy to bet on Dortmund here. They are in great form, so it’s no wonder why the Bundesliga 2018 odds are swinging in their favour.

SBOBET Asian Handicap betting even put them as overwhelming top dogs amid their great streak.

With that said, I don’t see much value on directly betting on a Dortmund win. Don’t get me wrong; I expect BVB to take all three points. Nonetheless, I predict Hertha to go more defensive this time given that they know they can ‘t hold their ground offensively.

Defence is something Hertha can be proud of, and why won’t they use that, right?
