Premier League: Could This Be Another EPL Classic?

Arsenal vs Leicester City

These two have produced a few Premier League classics down the years.

Certainly, the ‘upstarts’ of Leicester City have always seemed to thrive on upsetting Arsenal’s rhythm and have managed to achieve that on a number of occasions.

Who can forget the 1997 six-goal thriller when Dennis Bergkamp scored a sublime hat-trick only for Leicester to fight back from 2-0 and 3-2 down through sheer spirit and determination when the club’s legendary figure Steve Walsh netted a 96th-minute equaliser?

Just one of many compelling contests in which David has taken Goliath head-on.

Talking Points

Although overall Premier League 2018 highlights so far have not featured these two clubs too often, there is no doubt they are both making progress.

The Gunners are in fine form and hit five last time out.

They are currently in the middle of their best run since April 2015 and go into this on the back of nine matches unbeaten in all competitions, including six straight Premier League victories.

Perhaps the key, just it was for them compared to previous seasons, is they have also won games even when they have not deserved to.

That is always the sign of a good side, and Unai Emery has seemed to instil some calm with his new troops after two opening defeats to reigning champions Manchester City and Chelsea, although granted more major tests are yet to come.

There is also the calming presence of Laurent Koscielny’s return, although Emery admits he’s unlikely to be available for another month.

The defender has been out of action since rupturing his Achilles tendon in a Europa League semi-final in May.

Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette celebrates scoring their second goal with team mates

Whether the Gunners are really good enough to launch a title challenge under the radar is doubtful, but the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey mean the Gunners can always be an attacking threat, even if Ramsey’s future (he has yet to agree to an extension to his contract which runs out next summer) needs to be agreed.

Lacazette has been directly involved in six goals in five starts in the Premier League so far this season (four goals, two assists).

Aubameyang has had a hand in more goals in all competitions in 2018 than any other player at the club (16 goals, five assists).

Leicester went down to Everton last time out and will have skipper Wes Morgan suspended for the visit to the Emirates after his dismissal in that defeat.

However, they have kept hold of England centre-back Harry Maguire, and the form of James Maddison since his £20 million summer capture from Norwich City suggests it is money well spent.

The international debut of Ben Chilwell also shows that Leicester have other good young talent at their disposal.

This should be an Arsenal victory, but I expect both teams to play their part in an open contest.

History

You have to go back to 1973 for the last time Leicester won on Arsenal turf.

For those who like to reminisce that September afternoon at Highbury saw the Foxes win 2-0 at Highbury, courtesy of goals from Len Glover and Mike Stringfellow.

Among the players that day for the visitors were England great Peter Shilton and the charismatic forward Frank Worthington.

Leicester’s most notable result at the home of the Gunners since then was a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup third round in 2000 – Leicester won the replay on penalties after another goalless draw.

As well as going down in a seven-goal feast last season late on, they also lost narrowly late on the year before.

Their record at home is much brighter.

In May, they gained revenge with an impressive 3-1 victory at the King Power Stadium, thanks to goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

They also held them to a 0-0 draw the season previously.

Betting Tip

??
Arsenal vs Leicester City Asian Handicap -1.00 @ 1.91
October 23, 03:00 (GMT+8)

Premier League 2018 betting odds back Arsenal strongly as you would expect.

Arsenal 1X2 @ 1.54 and Leicester City 1X2 @ 5.40 suggest not too many SBOBET backers are expecting the contest to be as close as the thriller which officially kicked started last season.

The draw @ 4.20 will certainly attract those who believe the Foxes raise their game against the more high profile the opposition.

You can win big money with a repeat of last season’s scoreline at the Emirates.

Correct score 4-3 will pay out at odds of @ 100.00.

For another seven goals – seven goals or over – the odds are @ 11.00, while over 3.50 goals offers you @ 2.29.

Asian Handicap +1.00 Leicester City @ 2.04 will tempt die-hard Leicester fans.
